A cartogram is, loosely, a redistribution of land proportion based upon an arbitrary element. For example, the photo to the left is that of a redistribution (across the globe) based solely upon plant distribution across planet earth. The URL for the photo to the left is: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://freegeographytools.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/271c-thumb.png&imgrefurl=http://freegeographytools.com/2007/downloadable-cartograms-from-worldmapper&usg=__efaAyki799izbQRZEQdQHzCVKV8=&h=256&w=512&sz=139&hl=en&start=3&um=1&tbnid=1RFGOaeNGpcvMM:&tbnh=66&tbnw=131&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcartograms%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:*:IE-SearchBox%26rlz%3D1I7GZFA%26um%3D1
